This, the 1555 edition of Vesalius' De humani corporis fabrica, contains the author's final revisions of the text, along with significant typographical refinements. The printer, Joannes Oporinus, set this edition in larger type (forty-nine instead of fifty-seven lines per page), which required a recutting of all the woodcut initial letters to fit the updated layout. This edition was also printed on heavier paper stock than the edition of 1543
The woodcut illustrations in the Fabrica are frequently ascribed to the workshop/circle of Titian and/or Jan Stephan van Calcar, but the names of the artist or artists responsible for their creation remain unknown
